Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona
More than a Store
After being impressed by several of our projects for other departments within GCNA, one of our stakeholders was interested in what our team might produce if given the project to redesign the Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona website.
Given free reign to change anything and everything, we developed a design system that had similarities to The Excel Center (managed by Goodwill) and My Career Advisor (also managed by Goodwill) to promote a connection between the three applications. We also adjusted the bright colors of the GCNA website to something more earth-toned and used fonts and design to emphasize a more ‘retro’ look that fit with modern takes of the thrift store.
Skills Demonstrated
Career Centers
Problem: Users were often unaware that Goodwill was more than a thrift store, while there were several no-cost offerings funded by the thrift stores from the company, from My Career Advisor to The Excel Center.
Solution: Place a greater emphasis on Goodwill’s community contributions and make it clearer to the user how they might use them. Move a page about the Career Centers from deep within the menu to a top-level item and have call to actions on the main page to guide users to learn more.
Donation Form
Problem: The current donation form that gave information about the tax deductible nature of Goodwill donations was antiquated – still paper handed to people when they donated. Users were often unaware that donations were tax deductible and stores often ran out of paper to hand to users.
Solution: Create a digital form with all tax-deductible information clearly displayed for the user. Install posters at key donation drop-offs with a QR code to the form so users could scan as they left.
